The Ultimate Halloween in Hawaii!
When it comes to the festive spirit of All Hallows’ Eve, no one does it quite as uniquely as the Islands of Aloha. Hawaii celebrates Halloween with massive street parties and bone chilling outdoor tours that will get your adrenalin pumping. Check out the following places and events that showcase Hawaii’s exciting Halloween celebrations.
As the largest Halloween celebration in Hawaii, the Lahaina Halloween Party sees streets closed down simply for the chance to celebrate the holiday in style. Businesses lining the streets are typically open as usual, some with special hours and specials to celebrate the busy night. While drinking isn’t allowed out on the streets, the many bars along Front Street offer visitors the chance to get a drink or some food with friends.
The Lahaina Halloween Party isn’t just for those 21 and over. Families with young children should arrive early to enjoy a Halloween costume parade at 4 p.m. as well as face painting and photo opportunities. Don your favorite themed Halloween costume and enjoy the family-fun before dark during the Keiki Parade at the Lahaina Halloween Party.
With an eerie history, this Plantation Village that is still in use as a botanical garden turns super creepy in October. You’ll have to enter through pitch black tunnels, see actors dressed in really scary costumes, and have people popping out at you or screaming in the background. This seriously is a bone chilling visit not suitable for the faint of heart or children.
Enjoy a really fun Halloween cruise and avoid the traffic in Lahaina by showing up on a boat. Maui Sunset Cruise offers a special Halloween cruise that takes you ashore to enjoy the celebrations in Lahaina, and picks you up at 9:15 p.m. to bring you back to Maalaea, your starting point. During the cruise, you’ll enjoy views of the beautiful coastline, food, drinks, dancing, and live music.
Located along the Waikiki Beach Walk, this delicious candy store sells sweets perfect for trick-or-treating. This shop is full of clear bins packed with colorful candies such as gummy worms, Jordan almonds, jelly beans, lollipops, and more. Stop by to get your sweet tooth ready for Halloween … or any other day!
Now that you’ve got your candy all set, you can pick your costume for whatever Halloween event you’ve got planned. Creative Costumes will have you outfitted and ready to go in whatever you might be looking for. If you get creative, you surely can find a costume to help you get noticed among the crowds at Lahaina’s great Halloween celebrations.

8. Kalaupapa Leper Colony, Kalaupapa, HI
In the mid-1800s, those infected with Hansen’s Disease (leprosy) were quarantined in Kalaupapa, a remote area on the island of Molokai. At its most populous, the colony housed 8,000 people and remained active until 1969, even though effective medicine was found in the 1940s. This former leper colony is now a national park, but remains home to some who have chosen to stay in the area. What’s creepy about this area is the vast cemetery with 2,000 unmarked graves. You can visit Kalaupapa Leper Colony, but only through official tours.
