Unleashing your creative side through paint is a great way to let loose, and shake off the stresses of the day. Even better? Sipping a delicious glass of wine or cocktail while you craft a masterpiece with your friends. No experience is necessary for any of these classes. For a different take on a fun night out, try one of these spots in Hawaii and with luck, end your night with a new fantastic piece of artwork to show for it!
Painting with a Twist has locations across the U.S. and has now opened their first location in Hawaii. You can see all of their events on the website calendar and they have plenty of different types of painting to choose from. Feel free to bring some snacks to class, but all alcohol must be purchased at the studio—there is a selection of beer and wine to choose from. Although you must be 21 years old to purchase alcohol, anyone 18 and over can join the Friday and Saturday evening classes. If you make reservations in advance, the staff will make sure that you can sit with your group.
The tagline here is “part cocktail party…part painting class… all fun!” and the staff is certainly out to make sure that everyone has a great time. They provide all of the materials and instruction (courtesy of their Partistas—Party Artists), and have a variety of wine, beer, cocktails and light snacks available for purchase at the bar. Ages 16 and up are welcome to all classes, but anyone under age 21 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian over 21 years of age.
This mobile painting party company will bring everything that you need to throw your own paint and sip shindig. Pick your favorite location and for $35 per person you and your friends will get three to 3.5 hours of instruction, with set-up, cleanup, canvas and supplies included. Mix up your favorite cocktails or open a few bottles of wine, kick back and unleash your inner artist. The instructors can work with a wide variety of ideas, so if you have a theme in mind or an idea for a group painting project or specific image, please let them know and they will be happy to work with you!
Another national brand, Wine & Canvas began in Indianapolis and is now hosted at different venues throughout Honolulu, including Formaggio Grill, Sheraton Waikiki, and the Four Seasons Oahu. You can see which painting will be taught on the calendar prior to signing up—most are tropical landscapes and animals. Some nights include a complementary glass of wine and free validated parking, so be sure to check the schedule! Prices average about $45 per class.
Wine and Design, along with hosting painting events with fun libations, also has divisions catering to private events and children. These classes are a bit cheaper, around $20, but events are BYOB so make sure to grab your favorite bottles of wine to share with friends. The paintings in these classes range in skill level and style, which is appealing for those who gravitate toward a particular style. Easier, kid-friendly painting class are offered Saturday mornings, with more advanced pieces in the evenings during the week.
Create a Canvas is a mobile art studio that brings painting and wine night to you. Get together with a group of friends and reserve a location (homes, parks, recreational center, etc.) and the staff will come to you with all the supplies and instruction that you need! The Oeno Paint and Sip Experience is $45/person and includes a 16 x 20 stretched canvas, 2 hour of instructor-led painting, a wine sampling and a bottle of wine to take home.
Started several years ago as an art collective, The Loading Zone offers #unloadcreativity paint parties each week where about $40 gets you a free drink, instructor-led paint class, all supplies and your own 11 by 14-inch canvas to paint and keep. The Loading Zone is also beginning to offer some special events this summer, like a special wine glass tasting and painting event and a cupcakes and paint event.
No instruction is provided at this lovely wine bar, but feel free to be inspired by the scenery around you and they'll bring all the materials required to paint a canvas or glass to your table, along with your chosen beverage. Canvases, picture frames and wine glasses plus materials range from $25-$30 per person. Happy hour menu and drink specials offer reasonably priced choices to enjoy while you paint.
Hawaii Island Art Parties rotates locations around the big island of Hawaii. The second and fourth Tuesdays of the month are held at Daylight Mind Waikoloa, there is a once monthly event at Karma Hawaii (text the number on the website to book), and a once monthly event at Daylight Mind Kona (see the event calendar on the website). Prices vary depending on class length, and although do not include beverages, beverages are sold as the normal menu prices dictate.
