Kalo has a deep history and cultural significance to the native Hawaiian people. In the Hawaiian culture, kalo is believed to be the source of all life. Through a unique partnership with Hawaii Executive Collaborative and Kamehameha Schools, HFWF is proud to present Kalo – Nourishing Hawaii and Sharing It with the World—a program designed to elevate kalo as a unique and important food source.
In celebration of our Kalo Recipe Contest, Kamehameha Schools Presents Outstanding in the Loi will feature a special evening to dine at the root of this unique food source, in the loi of Kakoo Oiwi. Created by the top five finalists of the Recipe Contest, this five-course dinner with one-of-a-kind winning dishes will showcase kalo and its unique nutritional and medicinal properties. Each course will transport guests to taste the culmination of an immersive Kalo Culinary Journey experience from our winning chefs. At the end of the dinner, guests will gain an understanding of where food comes from, recognize the farmers who produce it and learn how kalo inspired the creation of each chef’s dish.
Shuttle transportation to Kakoo Oiwi provided.
